大象三明治是一家迷你日式三明治食铺，位于上海陕西北路与新闸路交界的闹市街角。店主灏在日本游历时，被这种简单而美味的日式三明治深深吸引，并决定将其带回上海。与灏讨论之后，我们从产品出发，力图为大象三明治打造一家原汁原味的充满生活气息的社区三明治店铺。

Nestled at the crossroads between North Shanxi Road and Xinzha Road in Shanghai, Elephant3 is a charming stall specialising in Japanese sandwiches: the sando. Inspired by their gastronomic experience whilst travelling in Japan, stall owner Hao decided to introduce the Japanese sando to Shanghai because of its simplicity and delicacy. Based on the flavourful sandos with Hao’s narratives, WhiteLab aimed to design unique sando stall to replicate the authentic taste and experience for the neighbourhood.

仅 14m2 的场地位于一栋历史保护建筑的临街辅楼，与场地接壤的人行道狭长而繁忙。为了兼顾餐饮后厨的实用性与客户的购买体验，我们将原场地店铺的两个开间外立面内推，并预留出将近 1m 深的室外活动空间，消费者可以在这个室外空间完成选购的动作，而不会因为短暂的驻足与人行道上的人流互相干扰。后勤出入口设置在另一个开间，此处 1m 深的室外活动空间不仅为后勤提供了缓冲区，也为顾客提供了户外短暂休憩一隅。

The 14m2 site of the stall is located at the podium of a concessional historical building which faces a busy and narrow pedestrian sidewalk. By considering the “pick out and pay” purchasing format and the logistic efficiency of the staff working space, we created a recessed exterior. This created a space which allows the customer to pick out a sando and finish the payment without obstructing the pedestrian flow. Additionally, this created a buffer zone between the sidewalk and the logistic space. The placement of a fixed outdoor seating provides an accessible place for a brief respite and for customers to enjoy their sando.

受到店内三明治棕色面包和奶油夹心的色彩启发，我们选择防水处理后的海洋板和奶油色室外肌理涂料作为外立面的主要饰面材料，搭配暖灰色的石材手工砖，柔和的色彩和天然的材料，让店铺看起来既平易近人又充满了食欲。

Extracting the colour elements from a typical sando, we choose weather-treated plywood panels and a creamy texture paint for the façade, while the outdoor floor is paved with natural stone tiles. With its natural materials and soft colour palette, the Elephant 3 sando stall radiates a warm and welcoming aura with its delicacies.
